Is the software ODBC compliant and how does ADO differ from ODBC?

In relation to integrating with the World Wide Web, VIGILANT goes beyond ODBC, which merely provides data access and was designed with consideration to local access. VIGILANT is using a superior ADO (Active X Data Objects), which allows enhanced access between the program, other databases and the Internet. While ODBC focuses primarily on the database, rather that the functions of business and availability of data, ADO offers increased flexibility and is designed to move information across the Web at a relatively high speed. It can also operate without an Internet connection. ODBC, on the other hand, must remain on line at all times. Overall, ADO provides an improved ease and efficiency for the business.

VIGILANT CAPITALIZING ON THE DEBIT CARD

Continuing their strong traditions on not only meeting current end user needs, but of forging ahead to meet future end user needs, Vigilant Business Software was one of the first software companies to offer the ability to accept debit card transactions through Global Payment Systems.

"As of December 29, 1997, total debit card transactions reached 1 billion, surpassing both Visa and Mastercard transactions" says Mig Migirdicyan, President, Global Payments National Data Corporation of Canada. The debit card, a small, magnetically encoded card that, when used at the ATM (automatic teller machine), allows the user to access their accounts and account funds, also allows consumers to purchase goods and services from retailers by electronically moving funds from their bank account owned by the merchant.

Marketing surveys show that for the consumer, the debit card is fast, convenient, and reliable, and for the merchant it offers great service, reduces paperwork, and cuts down on NSF checks. Although cash is still the number one choice, but Interac Direct Payment is catching up. We don't think debit will replace cash but it's definitely leading the way toward a society where less cash is used.

VIGILANT has previously been integrated with National Data Corporation, ICVerify and GO Software. PC-Charge for credit card processing. Adding debit is a major advancement, particularly in the Canadian market, because it was only available to larger merchants.

VIGILANT can go to the merchant community and offer a total solution.
